A will has been found. Where does probate begin?
By Bekerman & Co. · Law Office
After a testator dies, a beneficiary named in the will can apply for a probate order. Find out where the original is held and whether it was deposited with the Registrar. If several documents appear to be wills, keep all of them and note how each was found. Their relationship can affect the procedure.
Read the will alongside a list of known assets. If it mentions only a particular asset, an inheritance order may also be needed for property it does not cover. Check the official instructions for submitting the original and for the procedure where it is missing. Keep copies of correspondence and receipts.
